Terms of Service
Last updated: April 2025
The short version: Use Dipity to stay connected with people you actually know. Be respectful, don't abuse the platform, and don't share other people's location data without their consent. If you break the rules, we may suspend your account.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Dipity app or website (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Dipity ("we," "our," or "us"). We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Dipity. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
3. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activities that occur under it. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information when registering
- Keep your contact information up to date
- Not share your account credentials with anyone else
- Notify us immediately at support@getdipity.app if you suspect unauthorized access to your account
We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Dipity only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of others. You must not:
- Harass, stalk, or threaten any person
- Share another user's location information without their explicit consent
- Use the Service to spy on, track, or monitor any person without their knowledge
- Create fake accounts or impersonate any person or entity
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its related systems
- Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers against the Service
- Transmit any malware, viruses, or harmful code
- Use the Service for any commercial solicitation or spam
- Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
5. Location Data and Privacy
Dipity is built around location-based features. By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of your location information as described in our Privacy Policy. Specifically:
- Location data is used only to determine what city you are in — never your precise street address — unless you explicitly opt in to precise location sharing with a specific friend
- You control exactly which friends can see your city, current location, and travel plans
- You can disable location sharing at any time from within the app
You agree that you will only use Dipity to share your own location, and not to share or reveal another person's location without their consent.
6. Google Calendar Integration
Dipity offers optional integration with Google Calendar. If you choose to connect your Google account, you grant Dipity read-only access to your Google Calendar data solely for the purpose of displaying your upcoming events alongside your friends' travel plans — helping you identify when you may be in the same city at the same time.
- We access only the minimum calendar data needed to provide this feature
- Calendar data is not stored on our servers beyond the duration of your active session
- Your calendar data is never shared with other users or third parties
- You can revoke this access at any time via your Google Account permissions page or from within the Dipity app
Our use of Google Calendar data complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
7. User Content
You retain ownership of any content you submit to Dipity (such as your profile photo, travel plans, and travelogue entries). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, and display that content solely to operate and improve the Service.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit any content you provide, and that it does not violate any third-party rights or applicable laws.
8. Intellectual Property
The Dipity app, website, logo, and all associated software and content (excluding user content) are owned by Dipity and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our express written permission.
9. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party services including Google Firebase, Apple, and Google. Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
Dipity is a social discovery tool — we are not responsible for any real-world interactions, meetups, or events that result from use of the Service.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dipity shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months prior to the claim (if any).
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from within the Dipity app. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we determine violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful to other users, us, or third parties.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) will survive.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.
